[What and why]

We are introducing centralized notification settings for channels in Microsoft Teams. Users will have a single location to view and manage notification preferences across their channels instead of configuring settings individually for each channel. This simplifies notification management and reduces the effort required to review and update settings.

[Rollout schedule]

  • Targeted Release: Beginning early October 2026 and expected to complete by early October 2026
  • General Availability (Worldwide): Beginning early October 2026 and expected to complete by late October 2026

[Impact on your organization]

Who is affected

  • All Microsoft Teams users

Platforms/Services

  • Microsoft Teams desktop and web

What will happen

  • Users will be able to access centralized channel notification settings in Microsoft Teams settings at Settings > Notifications and activity > Manage channel notifications.
  • Notification settings will be organized in a team-to-channel hierarchy.
  • Users will be able to review and update notification preferences for individual channels from a single location.
  • Users will be able to filter channels to identify those with customized notification settings.
  • The feature will be enabled by default.
  • Existing channel notification settings will be preserved.
  • No changes will be made to existing admin policies or tenant configurations.

[Action Required/Recommendations]

No admin action is required.

We recommend:

  • Informing users about this new capability.
  • Updating internal Teams guidance or training materials if they include instructions for managing channel notifications.

[Compliance considerations]

No compliance considerations identified. Review as appropriate for your organization.
