What and Why

To align with the Microsoft 365 Copilot transition to Microsoft Copilot, we are updating the sender identity for Microsoft Copilot educational and product enablement emails. These emails help users learn about Microsoft Copilot capabilities included in their subscriptions, discover new features, and improve productivity with the tools available to them. This change provides consistent branding across Microsoft Copilot experiences while ensuring users continue to receive guidance, tips, and service updates.

Rollout Schedule:

  • General Availability (Worldwide): Mid-September 2026

Impact on Your Organization

Who is affected:

  • Organizations that have opted in to receive Microsoft product and service communications for users with Microsoft Copilot features enabled.
  • Microsoft 365 administrators who manage mail flow rules, allow lists, or safe sender configurations.
  • Users who are newly enabled for Microsoft Copilot services and capabilities and/or users previously enabled who are already receiving emails.

Platforms/Services:

  • Microsoft Copilot
  • Exchange Online
  • Microsoft Defender for Office 365
  • Microsoft 365 end-user communications

What will happen:

  • Users continue to receive transactional service-enablement emails when they are granted access to Microsoft Copilot capabilities. Sender address will be updated to Microsoft Copilot (microsoftcopilotupdates@microsoft.com).
  • Users continue to receive educational and product enablement emails. Sender address will be updated to Microsoft Copilot (microsoftcopilotupdates@microsoft.com).
  • Emails will no longer be sent from Microsoft 365 Copilot (m365copilotupdates@microsoft.com).
  • The content and purpose of these emails remain unchanged.
  • Existing mail flow rules, safe sender entries, and allow lists that reference the previous sender address may need to be updated.
  • This change is enabled automatically and does not require tenant configuration to take effect.

Action Required/Recommendations

  • Review mail flow rules, transport rules, safe sender configurations, and allow/block lists that reference m365copilotupdates@microsoft.com.
  • Update those configurations to use microsoftcopilotupdates@microsoft.com.
  • Add microsoftcopilotupdates@microsoft.com to your organization's safe sender or allow list to help ensure delivery.
  • Review internal documentation or help desk guidance that references the previous sender address.
  • Communicate this change to support teams if they assist users with email filtering or message delivery issues.
  • Configure allow entries in Microsoft Defender for Office 365
  • Ensure users receive Microsoft Copilot educational emails
