[What and why]

We are introducing support for using JPG and PNG files as knowledge sources in Microsoft Copilot Notebooks. This enhancement allows users to add images directly to notebooks alongside supported document types.

Copilot can use content contained within these images, including text, charts, diagrams, and other visual elements, as grounding context to generate more relevant presentations, reports, briefs, and other outputs. This update helps users incorporate information stored in images into their Copilot Notebook workflows without additional processing steps.

[Rollout schedule]

  • Public Preview (Worldwide): Rollout has completed.
  • General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout began in early October 2026 and is expected to complete by late October 2026.
