Title: Admins may be unable to create new policies or edit existing compliance policies through Microsoft Purview User impact: Admins were unable to create new policies or edit existing compliance policies through Microsoft Purview. More info: This issue specifically impacted admins who attempted to create new policies or edit existing policies in the Basic Mobility and Security portal. Final status: We’ve determined that a recent security update removed an authentication component which facilitates the use of creating new policies or editing existing policies in the Basic Mobility and Security portal. We’ve since reverted the offending service change and after an extended period of monitoring the service, validated that impact has been remediated. Scope of impact: This issue specifically impacted admins who attempted to create new policies or edit existing policies in the Basic Mobility and Security portal. Start time: Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 11:52 PM UTC End time: Friday, April 24, 2026, at 7:00 PM UTC Root cause: A recent security update removed an authentication component which facilitates the use of creating new policies or edit existing policies in the Basic Mobility and Security portal. Next steps: - We’re continuing to analyze how the service change was applied to understand why the potential for impact wasn't caught during the update testing and validation phase. These actions will help us to clarify what actions we can take to ensure similar impact doesn't occur in future and to continue our ongoing mission to improve the resilience of our service for all Microsoft Purview users.
