Title: Users may not see chart data when using standard light or dark themes on Power BI dashboards
User impact: Users may not have seen chart data when using standard light or dark themes on Power BI dashboards.
More info: This display issue impacted the appearance of cartesian charts only, such as bar charts and line charts. Custom themes weren't impacted.
Users could have chosen to keep the report theme when pinning charts or use any dashboard theme other than light mode or dark mode.
Final status: We've updated the Title, User impact, and scope of impact statements of this communication to reflect that this also affected standard dark mode themes. Afer mitigating the previously identified blockers in our deployment pipeline, we've confirmed that our fix has fully deployed as expected and all users can now see chart data on Power BI dashboards that use any theme.
Scope of impact: This issue may have impacted any user who was attempting to view data on a cartesian chart pinned to the Power BI dashboard with standard light theme or dark theme enabled.
Start time: Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 12:00 PM UTC
End time: Friday, October 9, 2026, at 6:00 AM UTC
Root cause: A recent code change intended to unify font colors was incorrectly applied to the background color property for cartesian charts pinned to the Power BI dashboard, resulting in the data on these charts being illegible.
Next steps:
- We're continuing to develop important visual upgrades while optimizing our quality assurance checks to ensure a smooth user experience.
This is the final update for the event.
