Closer analysis identified a recent change associated with our ongoing service resilience efforts which overloaded our traffic management processes and caused impact. The service is now restored; however, users whose calls and meetings were previously affected may need to end and restart those calls and meetings to see full recovery. Scope of impact: Any Microsoft Teams users in the Asia-Pacific region may have been impacted when attempting to create or join meetings or calls. Start time: Friday, July 24, 2026, at 12:25 AM UTC End time: Friday, July 24, 2026, at 1:27 AM UTC Root cause: The incident was triggered during the rollback of a Cosmos DB configuration designed to help limit the impact of failures and prevent wider service disruptions in one of the Teams services. As part of a precautionary investigation into a potential issue with this configuration, the feature was disabled in the APAC region. During the rollback, a subset of data partitions experienced a temporary service inconsistency for approximately 23 minutes, which resulted in intermittent request failures. As dependent services and client applications attempted to recover from these failures, request volumes increased significantly and created an unexpected surge in traffic across several platform services. The elevated traffic levels placed substantial pressure on service infrastructure, leading to broader service degradation and impacting some calling and meeting scenarios. The issue gradually self-resolved as platform scaling and traffic-management mechanisms automatically adjusted to absorb the increased demand. While service was restored without additional customer action, there are follow-up repair items to further strengthen resilience and reduce the likelihood of similar incidents in the future.
