What and why
Microsoft Whiteboard is retiring the standalone Whiteboard applications for Windows, iOS, and Android. Beginning October 16, 2026, the standalone Microsoft Whiteboard apps will no longer be supported for work or school accounts and personal Microsoft accounts. Users should access Whiteboard through Microsoft Teams and supported web experiences going forward. After the retirement date, already-installed standalone apps will display a retirement experience and will no longer provide access to Whiteboard galleries or existing Whiteboard content.

Worldwide, GCC, GCC High, DoD: We will begin rolling out on mid-October 2026 and expect to complete by mid-October 2026.
Impact on your organization
Organizations and users who currently rely on the standalone Microsoft Whiteboard apps for Windows, iOS, or Android will be affected. Beginning October 16, 2026, the standalone apps will no longer be supported and users will need to access Whiteboard through Microsoft Teams or supported web experiences.
This change only affects the standalone applications. Whiteboard functionality available through Microsoft Teams continues to be supported. Organizations that have already adopted Teams-based Whiteboard experiences will experience minimal impact.

Admins should prepare their organizations for the retirement of the standalone Whiteboard apps by:
Communicating the retirement date (October 16, 2026) to affected users.
Encouraging users to transition to Microsoft Whiteboard in Microsoft Teams and supported web experiences before the retirement date.

No additional administrative configuration is required. However, organizations should ensure users are prepared to use the supported Teams-based Whiteboard experience before the retirement date.
